FAQ

In the application form, journals are asked to describe succinctly how they are embedded in Swiss research communities. There is not one but many ways of interpreting “embeddedness.” Participating institutions will evaluate the relevance of journals on the basis of this information and in line with their mission.

The CoDOA funding model is tailored around individual Diamond Open Access journals and can provide services for a restricted maximum number of journals only. This is why only one journal per publisher will be considered per funding round.

Journals are asked to provide details of their costs and support they receive to ensure transparency and allow an assessment whether the journal’s funding target is commensurate to the expenditures of the journal.

There will be no centralised evaluation board of journal applications. The Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries will formally review the submitted application forms regarding completeness and the eligibility criteria. Evaluations will be done by the pledging institutions themselves on the basis of the information provided in the application form.

In order to enable all journals to reach their funding targets, a maximum of around 20 journals will be included in the consortial offer. The concrete amount depends on the total number of eligible applications received. Application and funding statistics will be published annually.

Only journals that reach their funding target will receive funding. Journals that fail to do so during one funding campaign can apply again in the next funding round.
